nels cline




   up there w/ d. boon in his ability to blow me clean away w/his guitar playing, nels cline has had some affect on this wattster. no greater joy has ever come from getting to wail w/him these days. he has a great ability to translate my spiel into actual guitar workings, hence the great jobs he's done on "ball-hog or tugboat" (featured on six tunes there - the most of any guitarist on it) and "contemplating the engine room" (where he had to capture stuff like sailors whistling on the deck to sounds from the bowels of a boat under way). it is a true gift to have the chance to play w/him. he's been a member of my live groups the crew of the flying saucer (which did the "clam blow" and "shinebox" tours '95) and the black gang (which did the "puttin' the opera to bed" tour '98) plus me and perk also get to join him in banyan. he also plays w/ carla in scarnella and the geraldine fibbers as well as his own band destroy all nels cline.
